It seems easy to say, but it is true. If we have two options, one is to keep going, and the other is to turn back. I would go with option one. Of course, again, it is not easy. If it is easy, everyone can do it.
Imagine this: we work so hard to get where we want to be. And we have to turn back or give up just because it is too hard?
I think it is okay to have a cry or break, and then we go back again to pursue our big dreams or continue doing what we want in life and make an impact.
Throughout my career, I always had those two options. I could have stayed as a Mining Engineer (which is a fantastic job, by the way). Still, I knew deep down that I could have helped people like me take on more challenging roles and helped them see that it was possible to be in charge of a group of professional or technical people as a General Manager of Mining Technical Services.
Another story is when my husband and I climbed Mount Agung in Bali, Indonesia. I wouldn’t recommend doing it unless you are an experienced mountain climber, as I am not, and you must have a guide. We started around midnight to see the sunrise when we reached the summit. I was so scared climbing up in some areas was very steep, and I couldn’t see what was behind me, or I would have guessed falling was dangerous. Imagine that. I remember I thought of turning back because I was so scared, but I was more afraid of turning back and falling injured myself. So, I kept going, knowing it wouldn’t be dark on the way back and safe with better visibility.
Here I am. I want to rechallenge myself, doing something completely different and MASSIVE for me, as I want to help people change their lives to be better and believe they can do it. No matter your background and where you come from, if you want to make an impact and not be selfish by showing others the possibility and helping them.
Sometimes I think, who am I doing what I am doing? I am from a small village in Indonesia, made my way up to Australia and contributed to the country and community. I know it is a long journey. I started again, and not easy. But I know the hard life I have been through to get where I am. And I believe I will do it again and again.
So, keep going, keep practising. Be comfortable with failing and making mistakes. The thing is how we get up, learn from mistakes and keep going that matters. One day, we will make it and as you may have heard this before. You experience success when no one is watching.
Keep going and make your own true story.
