Are you stuck where you don’t know how to finish something you have started? It is a common problem when we have bad habits related to self-management. Everything begins with ourselves. To get things done, we have to work on ourselves.
Each time I have an unfinished task or project, I keep looking back at the purpose of WHY I have to GET the things DONE before thinking HOW I should get things done.
It has to come back to my goal or purpose. The question of WHO, WHAT, WHY, WHEN, WHERE and HOW (5W+ 1 H) is the simplest method I use to GET things done.
Who will benefit from the things I am about to get done?
What are the goals and purpose for the tasks/things that need to be done?
Why- Why are things being delayed?
When- When should I get this thing done? when should I Start
Where- Where should the task be taking place or be submitted?
How- do I have the ability to do the task? Am I qualified for the job/work that I need to get done?
I always have to ask myself these questions to have the motivation to GET THINGS done. Lack of inspiration and purpose are significant reasons people don’t get their things done.
So, is your task or work substantial enough for you, and do you have the ability to manage the task that needs to be done?
Some extra tips as reminders that work for me:
Overcome your overwhelm - when you see a mountain on the list to do, you get overwhelmed. It would be best if you tried to fight that by focusing on 1 to 2 main things at the time. Also, learn to make your mundane tasks into a batch or chunk. It also helps avoid overthinking and being too attached to the tasks.
It is better to get done than try to be perfect. Most successful people use it. Of course, we want to give quality work to our people and anything we do, but at the same time, we don’t want to get trapped in perfectionism.
All of the above are the things I need to improve, for sure. It is not easy. It is why our purpose has to be meaningful, and it is not about us but the people we want to help.
